SC Educators Endorse Vincent Sheheen for Governor

Today, South Carolina's oldest professional organization for educators, the South Carolina Educators Association, announced its endorsement of Vincent Sheheen for Governor of South Carolina.

"South Carolina's teachers are on the front lines working to improve the future of our state -- I have been proud to stand with them to support public education for many years and I am honored to receive the SCEA's endorsement for governor," said Sen. Vincent Sheheen.

Sen. Sheheen addressed the SCEA's Leadership Conference in Columbia this afternoon and thanked the educators for their support.

"South Carolina deserves a leader they can trust in the governor's office, who will lead on education instead of making devastating cuts for three years before turning school funding into an election-year political football," Sen. Sheheen continued. "The time for gimmicks has passed. The best way to education children is to start early -- that is why I am proud to have led the effort to expand 4-year-old kindergarten for nearly a decade and delivered results."

The SCEA recommended Sen. Sheheen as the best choice for South Carolina's governor because of his consistent leadership and commitment to improving public education. Their endorsement announcement, which follows Governor Nikki Haley's month-long effort to rewrite her record on education, cited Sen. Sheheen's repeated efforts to expand access to 4-year-old kindergarten, increase teacher-pay, and develop a more equitable formula for state education funding based on need, not zip code.
