Congressman Xavier Becerra: "This is Why Republicans Have Shut Down Immigration Reform in the House

Statement

Date: June 24, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in response to Republican Congressman Darrell Issa's (CA-49) letter calling on President Obama to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"Today, House Republicans called on President Obama to end Deferred Action for more than half a millionaspiring Americans who want to fully contribute to the success of the only country they have ever called home. Instead of building upon the President's progress, by putting the Senate's bipartisan commonsense immigration reform bill on the House floor for a vote or offering an alternative proposal to reform our broken immigration system, House Republicans have spent the last 363 days doing nothing except pointing fingers. They would rather blame anyone but themselves for a broken immigration system than step up and fix it. This is why Republicans have shut down immigration reform in the House."
