CRAPO PRAISES SERVICE OF POPE JOHN PAUL II

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo issued the following statement today regarding Pope John Paul II:

"Pope John Paul II will be remembered for the way he has used his considerable influence in an effort to improve world peace, human rights and issues of human dignity. At the same time he has set an example for all of us with his selfless service and sacrifice.

"His ongoing crusade for human rights and human dignity related to his native Poland helped defeat Communism in the former Soviet Union. His call to respect human life and dignity has brought a calming influence to many on a daily basis.

"Pope John Paul II has marked over a quarter of a century of influence over both spiritual and political leaders. I know I join many others when I say his unique example of sacrifice and leadership will take its place in the history books among the other leaders of our modern world."
