The recent conviction of one California State Senator and serious charges against two others tells me we have a serious problem in the Legislature. For years the Legislature has increased ethics standards and Brown Act legislation for local officials; it's time the Legislature held itself accountable to the same standards. That makes it easy for me to support recent proposals put forward by California Forward that reform legislative ethics laws, including creating an independent legislative ethics officer and giving legislative staff whistle blower protection.
