Issue Position: Protecting Jobs and Industry

"You don't have to look very far in District 5 to know the importance of coal to our economy. When industries like coal are under attack from liberal environmentalists, we must fight back. If you don't believe the federal government isn't intrusive, just consider Obamacare. I will always believe local folks know what's best for them." -- Sen. Greg Reed

Senator Greg Reed represents all of Walker and Fayette Counties and parts of Tuscaloosa, Jefferson and Winston Counties. He is keenly aware of what makes the economy of his district thrive. The current hostility from the Obama Administration toward the coal industry is an assault on the industry that means so much to Greg's district and to the state at large. That's why Greg embraces the Tenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Greg Reed knows the implementation of Obamacare on October 1, 2013, will eventually result in a reduced workforce and a business community shackled by federal mandates, stifling expansion and growth. Greg opposes Washington Beltway bureaucrats dictating policies that result in hurdles for those struggling to keep employees and turn a profit.

Alabama's current tax structure is one that has attracted new industry to the state like Mercedes, Hyundai and Honda to name a few. Greg believes when taxes are lower than other nearby states, Alabama can win the competition for job relocation and expansion.
