Second, I will be a champion for education in Stamford. It is essential that we provide all children in Stamford with access to early childhood education. Children who start kindergarten behind are at a significant disadvantage, and broader access to early childhood education will increase graduation rates and better prepare students for college. Increased funding and resources from the state will help achieve this. To this end, I will build off of the work that the Stamford delegation has already accomplished and will advocate for a more equitable distribution of the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) grant, so that Stamford's Public Schools receive their fair share of funding. Stamford taxpayers are paying more on public education than other cities and they are not getting enough back in return. This is not only unfair, but it also puts our students at a disadvantage. I will be a strong proponent at the state level for Stamford's public schools.
