Issue Position: Supporting Women

Women's Health

Women deserve to have access to the full range of reproductive health care education and options. I unequivocally support all women's right to reproductive freedom and would fight against any efforts to restrict these fundamental rights.

Equal Pay for Equal Work

I support equal pay for equal work. As a civil rights attorney, I fight the discrimination women face in the workplace daily. Women in Massachusetts still earn only 81 cents for every dollar a man earns. I will continue my work fighting for gender equality in the workplace by working for pay equity, which will improve life for women, their families and our communities.

Encouraging Women Entrepreneurs

Small businesses are the engine of growth for local jobs. Women entrepreneurs own more than 40% of the businesses in the US and this percentage is climbing. To encourage this trend further, I will support policies to create a more level playing field for regular folks to open a small business.

Stopping Violence and Protecting Women

I support programs to protect women from domestic and interpersonal violence. As Assistant District Attorney, I saw first-hand the physical and emotional damage done to women and their children who were abused, and prosecuted the perpetrators. Every day, women are harmed -- even killed -- most often by men they know, harm that has dramatic impact on women and their children. We need to ensure that women have safe places to go to escape abusers and get the treatment and support they need: I will work to restore funding that has been cut from the budget for shelters. We also need programs that teach men how to deal with conflict and anger in non-violent ways.
