Signs are pointing to a stronger Iowa economy. Our revenue has surpassed pre-recession levels. Iowa has a AAA bond rating and our unemployment levels are well-below the nation.

Even though Iowa is fairing better than the rest of the nation, I know many middle class families and Iowans are still struggling to find a good-paying job and make ends meet.

Iowa must continue to focus on our main street, small businesses -- finding ways to assist small businesses in expanding their markets and ensuring that the infrastructure throughout the state supports commerce.

Education is tremendously important -- from birth throughout an individual's life cycle. I will continue to assure that access to quality education is accessible and affordable, regardless of the age of Iowans. As our economy shifts to global competition, lifelong learning is more important than ever. Iowans will continue to retool and retrain to remain competitive…..but education all builds on early learning opportunities.

As I make decisions in the legislature, I will look for ways to become more efficient and effective in the policies that are adopted and funded.

I am committed to continuing efforts to make Iowa the best place to live, work, play and learn.
