Today, on the 79th Anniversary of the historic signing of the Social Security Act, Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar, Democratic candidate for Congress in California's 31st district, released the following statement calling for a continued commitment to seniors and policies that strengthen Social Security:

"Seniors in the Inland Empire have worked their entire lives and contributed to Social Security, with the promise that these benefits would be there for them in retirement," Aguilar said. "We owe it to them and future generations to protect this program and ensure it remains strong."

"As your representative in Congress, I will fight for seniors and oppose cuts to Social Security benefits. We face tough economic choices, but balancing our budget on the backs of seniors is not only bad policy, it is immoral and unacceptable."

Just two weeks ago, Aguilar received the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, a group committed to protecting and preserving the financial security, health and the well being of current and future seniors.
