Location: Salt Lake City, UT

With the endorsements of the American Federation of Teachers-Utah and the Utah Education Association, 4th Congressional District candidate Doug Owens today pledged to improve the quality of education in Utah schools and make college more accessible and affordable for Utah families.

A strong supporter of Utah's hardworking middle class families, Owens believes it is critical to provide our children with a quality education, and that education is the best and most important investment Utah can make in its future.

"I'm honored to receive the endorsement and support of Utah teachers and educators, and I look forward to working with them to improve the quality of education in Utah schools," Owens stated. "My opponent's views on education are extreme and not constructive when it comes to the real challenges facing schools and parents in our state."

Owens vowed to support responsible federal student aid programs for college students, increased access to early childhood education, and to reform federal K-12 programs to increase accountability and flexibility for Utah's families and educators.

"Federal support of education in Utah should be responsible and accountable to local needs, rather than tied to Washington-based, one-size-fits-all requirements," said Owens. "By increasing access to quality education beginning at an early age, we are laying a strong foundation for our children's academic and economic future."

Doug Owens is a sixth-generation Utahn, Salt Lake City native, husband and proud father of four. He is the son of the late Utah Congressman Wayne Owens. Doug is a highly-respected attorney with 25 years of experience and is well-known for his ability to find solutions on even the most difficult issues.
