Westrom Statement on New MNsure Rates

Statement

Date: Oct. 2, 2014
Location: Fargo, MN

Torrey Westrom, the Republican nominee in Minnesota's 7th Congressional District, today released the following statement in response to increased premium rates for health insurance announced by MNsure, Minnesota's ObamaCare exchange:

"Despite promises that health insurance premiums in Minnesota would drop by nearly a third under ObamaCare, rates continue to rise, making things harder for families, individuals, and small business owners across the state. Thousands of Minnesotans will pay as much as 20 percent more for even the cheapest plans, and many will be forced to find new plans altogether after their provider dropped out of the exchange. Rural Minnesota families, our famers and our small businesses have been hit particularly hard from being burdened with higher premiums and fewer options.

"In the year since ObamaCare's disastrous rollout, it's become clear the president's health care law has been marked by skyrocketing costs and broken promises. We were told premiums would go down, but they are going up. We were told we could keep our plans if we liked them, but millions have received cancelation notices. It's time for the elected leaders who supported ObamaCare and those who have continued to vote against repealing it to not only admit the law is not working, but stand up and get to work on behalf of the millions of Americans who are enduring devastating consequences as a result of this incredibly flawed law."
