Statement

Date: Oct. 17, 2014
Location: Beckley, WV

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) Friday announced the award of a $275,400 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help the City of Beckley pursue planned local improvements.

"The Community Development Block Grant program is one of the very few Federal programs that provide flexible funding to enable towns and cities to further a wide range of initiatives that are beneficial to local residents. It's a program that I have long worked to protect from willy-nilly budget cutters because I have seen, time and again, how immensely helpful this funding has been to Southern West Virginia. I know Beckley will put these funds to good use," said Rahall.

The CDBG program is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This grant is expected to be used to help pave roads and remove dilapidated housing, as well as strengthen law enforcement activities.
