Fleming Votes No on Bill That Funds Amnesty and Obamacare

Statement

Date: Dec. 11, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., issued the following statement after voting against the $1.1 trillion spending measure that was on the House floor today:

"Louisianians have been absolutely clear: they want the president's amnesty scheme defunded, and they want it done now. We had the chance to force his hand today, but the House leadership capitulated. The so-called cromnibus that was on the House floor today looked no different from what I would have expected to see had Democrats been successful in last month's elections. But we know they were not. Louisiana closed out those elections by sending a clear message that they expected Republicans to stand up to President Obama, to defund amnesty, and to begin repealing Obamacare. Instead, the House approved a $1.1 trillion bill that funds Obamacare, allows the government to begin processing work permits and benefits for those here illegally, and was stuffed with costly political perks. I voted against it, and I will continue to fight in the next Congress to repeal Obamacare and to stop the president's immigration agenda."
