Rep. Jenkins: LNG Bill Good for West Virginia

Press Release

Date: Jan. 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) voted yes today on legislation to expand markets for West Virginia natural gas and cut red tape on liquefied natural gas exports.

"West Virginia energy creates West Virginia jobs, and our state's coal and natural gas products are in demand worldwide as affordable energy sources. Coal and natural gas both have important roles to play in an all-of-the-above energy strategy, but the Obama administration has focused instead on picking winners and losers in the energy economy. As permits stall, West Virginia's economy and energy workers suffer. We need to use our energy resources to create jobs and grow our economy, and I will continue to fight against the president's attempts to block West Virginia energy production," Rep. Jenkins said.

H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act, would require the U.S. Energy Department to issue decisions on liquefied natural gas export applications within 30 days of the National Environmental Policy Act review completion or the date of enactment, whichever is later. The DOE has been slow to issue decisions, leaving projects in limbo and creating uncertainty in the energy market. The House of Representatives voted 277-133 today to pass the bill.
