Issue Position: Property Rights

Issue Position

So many of our freedoms flow from the right to own property. There's a reason private property is a top target of the socialists and liberals who want to redistribute wealth. It all starts with private property. That's why way before the Bundy Ranch fight in Nevada, Lois has been fighting to see that land owners don't have their property taken by unelected government appointees. As a defender of private property rights, she wrote and passed a bill (HB 768 81R) to eliminate the unfair "jury of view" method of eminent domain in Texas. This shut down a loophole that governments had used to take a person's land without due process. Lois is proud that the bill was sponsored by Sen. Hegar and supported by the Texas Farm Bureau. Many of you may also remember when Lois and her fellow liberty-lovers banded together to kill the Trans-Texas Corridor. She was featured in the national media for her part in the Texas fight against the plan for privately-owned foreign toll roads. As a rancher, she toughened the law against cattle rustling, and worked with the support of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers to increase the criminal penalties for the theft of cattle, horses, and other livestock. (HB 1865 81R)
