Iowa Congressman David Young Votes to Hold the President Accountable for His Unconstitutional Executive Overreach

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Iowa Congressman David Young voted today to hold the president accountable for his unconstitutional executive overreach.

"The House has voted three times to fund the Department of Homeland Security and each time I have voted to keep this critical department open. My priorities have been clear, I want to fund Homeland Security, but I will not allow the presidents unconstitutional executive overreach to move forward.

"I am disappointed that the minority party in the Senate blocked -- four different times -- open and honest debate on Department of Homeland Security funding. The American people expect us to work together, to resolve our differences and find common-sense solutions to get the job done. With debate blocked and the president taking a unilateral approach to in effect create his own immigration laws, I decided to defend the balance of powers clearly designated in the U.S. Constitution.

"I have heard from Iowans across the Third District and they are outraged that the president continues to ignore their will, the courts and the Constitution. They deserve better. I voted today to hold the president accountable for his unconstitutional executive overreach."
