Olson Votes to Rein in Obama Amnesty Efforts

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today voted to overturn President Obama's executive actions on immigration that extended protections to millions of people in the US illegally. Included in the funding bill were provisions to defund Pres. Obama's amnesty efforts. Olson supported two amendments that defund these actions from November as well as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program announced by the President in 2012. This bill passed the House by a vote of 237-190. It now heads to the Senate for action.

"Today the House took an important step to stop President Obama's dangerous and unlawful executive amnesty," Rep. Olson said. "The US Constitution demands that any changes to immigration or other federal laws must be passed by Congress and enforced by the president. The president cannot unilaterally change laws as he sees fit. While providing needed funds for border security and enforcement, this bill defunds the lawless actions of President Obama and restores the constitutional process."

H.R. 240the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015 provides needed funding for border security and enforcement, as well as fully funding FEMA and cyber security operations.
