Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, announced that $20,000 in federal grants were awarded to the Los Angeles Public Library and Grand Performances as part of the Latino Americans: 500 Years of History program. With support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA), these organizations will receive funding to host public programs that support the American public's exploration of the rich and varied history and experiences of Latino Americans.

"I'm proud that organizations in Los Angeles have received grants to help share the history of Latino Americans," said Congressman Becerra. "These grants will help all of our communities come together to remember America's diverse heritage and ensure that all Americans' stories are told. Having worked a decade now to establish a National Museum of the American Latino, I know that we strengthen our country by reflecting on our rich past."

The Los Angeles Public Library and Grand Performances will each receive $10,000 to host public film screenings, discussion groups, oral history initiatives, local history exhibitions, multi-media projects, performances and other programs about Latino history and culture. The cornerstone of Latino Americans: 500 Years of History is the six-part, NEH-supported documentary film, Latino Americans, created for PBS in 2013 by the WETA public television station. The Peabody-winning series chronicles Latinos in the United States from the 16th century to present day.
