Statement

Date: April 23, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement on the historic confirmation of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General of the United States:

"Today, 166 days after her nomination, the Senate has finally acted to confirm Loretta Lynch as the next United States Attorney General. I congratulate Loretta Lynch, a veteran prosecutor who is well-respected for her tough but fair approach, and applaud her confirmation as the first African American female Attorney General.

"The 166 day delay is inexcusable and beneath the dignity of the institution we cherish as the greatest body of democracy. But I am confident that Loretta Lynch is ready to start the job on day one and will continue her track record of success in protecting our nation and fighting for the constitutional and civil rights of all Americans."
