HB 17 would increase the statute of limitations for the filing of civil lawsuits in cases of child abuse, which currently is five years after an alleged victim turns 18 years old. The legislation would add 30 years to the statute, or 35 years after the alleged victim has turned 18. Sponsors of HB 17 say Georgia presently has one of the shortest statutes of limitations in the nation for child abuse civil claims.
