Representative Todd Rokita (IN-04) helped lead House passage of legislation to repeal ObamaCare's onerous medical device tax today. H.R. 160, the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2015 passed with a bipartisan vote of 280 - 140. Following the vote, Rep. Rokita issued the following statement:

"Repealing the medical device tax is a win not only for Hoosier businesses in the life sciences industry, but also for patients who rely on medical devices for a better quality of life. I am a firm believer that if government wants less of something, all we need to do is tax it. When it comes to life-saving medical technology, I want more of it. I want to maintain U.S. leadership and innovation, and that is why it is so important to repeal this tax."

ObamaCare imposed a 2.3 percent excise tax on device manufacturers' and importers' revenue of medical devices like artificial hips, MRI scanners, and cardiac defibrillators. First implemented in 2013, this tax is responsible for thousands of layoffs, including at Indiana's own Zimmer, and restricted growth at companies like Cook Medical.

Rep. Rokita continues, "I have been fighting to repeal this job-killing tax since 2011, and I now urge my colleagues in the Senate to send this bill to the President's desk. If government gets out of the way, the medical device industry can continue to grow, giving patients access to the latest medical technology."
