Rokita Helps Lead Passage of Balanced Budget Resolution

Statement

Date: April 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Todd Rokita, Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee, helped lead House passage of a joint FY16 budget conference agreement today. For the first time since 2001, the House and Senate have agreed to a balanced, joint budget resolution. Rep. Rokita served on the budget conference committee as one of five representatives of the House, and released the following statement after the House approved the measure.

"The passage of this budget secures a great victory for the American people. Most importantly, it balances in less than ten years, restores fiscal sanity to Washington, and controls our runaway federal spending by reforming auto-pilot entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

I was honored to serve on the conference committee that forged this budget agreement. This budget will provide greater certainty for the future and will truly help all people build better lives for themselves and their families.

If followed, this budget represents a great opportunity to change our nation's fiscal trajectory, address the drivers of our debt, and strengthen the future for our children and grandchildren. This budget is the beginning, not the end, of a larger opportunity to lead our country forward. While much work remains, we need to celebrate the fact that it took fourteen years to get here again. I look forward to helping lead us to a solution."

The FY16 joint budget resolution repeals ObamaCare in its entirety, strengthens and preserves Medicare, saves more than $5 trillion in federal spending, and will encourage the creation of 1.2 million new jobs over the next ten years. The House passed the joint budget resolution by a vote of 226-197. The Senate is expected to consider the measure next week.
