Several dozen members of the Lafayette area's delegation is in Washington, D.C. Wednesday meeting with lawmakers on their turf. Among those stops was a meet and greet with U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita.

As reported on News 18 at Five, the group met up with Sen. Joe Donnelly earlier Wednesday where he spoke about multiple topics including homeland security and immigration.

Then the group had a brief meeting with Republican Congressman Todd Rokita, who is looking to build support for a vote on the Student Success Act -- a bill that Rokita has co-authored.

On Wednesday, President Obama said if the bill passed, he would veto it.

Rokita said it would replace No Child Left Behind law by allocating the same amount of money to the states to spend on education as the state sees fit. It comes just one day after the President vetoed the Keystone Pipeline.

Because of the education vote, I could only ask Rokita one question -- What bills could Republicans and Democrats agree on in this coming year?

Rokita said it's up to Democrats.

"My goal, and I share it with I think most members, is to get as many good ideas to the President's desk as possible. Keystone Pipeline is only the latest example," Rokita said. "At some point, the American people have to really consider who the problem is -- Todd Rokita and legislators or really the President of the United States."
