Congressman Becerra: LA County Joins Fight For Living Wage

Statement

Date: July 21, 2015
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to raise the minimum wage from $9 to $15 per hour by 2020 for workers in Los Angeles County's unincorporated areas and for County workers:

"With today's vote, Los Angeles County has joined the fight for a living wage for all Americans. I thank Supervisor Kuehl for leading this effort to make sure that hardworking county residents are not forced to live in poverty. Following the recent minimum wage increase in the City of Los Angeles, a county-wide increase is the right thing to do.

"I'm proud that Los Angeles is leading the way in rewarding work once again. With a growing number of cities and states across the country moving toward a living wage, it's time for Congress to keep the American dream alive and raise the federal minimum wage for all Americans."
