Congressman John Fleming, M.D., released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, to permanently repeal Medicare's Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR). H.R.2 also provides initial reforms to address the broken Medicare system.
"After years of temporary patches, I am pleased with the outcome of today's vote. This legislation offers stability to physicians and begins the critical process of ensuring that Medicare remains available for tomorrow's beneficiaries. Repealing the flawed SGR formula will require an honest assessment as to the actual cost of Medicare. Today's vote also encourages physicians to continue seeing Medicare patients and inaugurates Medicare reforms, such as means-testing for higher income beneficiaries and changing first dollar coverage in Medigap plans."
