  • "As a physician, I know firsthand that life begins at conception, and it’s our moral responsibility as humans to protect the most vulnerable among us. As one of only seven countries that allow elective abortions after 20 weeks in the world—in the company of North Korea—passing the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act should be an easy first step. I was proud to co-sponsor the bill as well as the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act. We also must prioritize defunding Planned Parenthood, a fight I am also proud to help lead. There are over 13,000 community health clinics that can provide the women’s services that Planned Parenthood purports to provide. It’s well past time to defund Planned Parenthood. We need to protect doctors and nurses from being required to perform abortions, as well as ensure that taxpayer dollars never fund abortions. The Hyde Amendment must stand and I’m proud to take up that fight." (markgreentn.com)
  • Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? "Pro-Life" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats voted to institutionalize abortion-on-demand. Make no mistake: This heinous legislation puts the United States on par with countries like North Korea. Despicable." (www.facebook.com)
  • Rated 100% by National Right to Life Committee (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Ironically, Sen. Kamala Harris's idea -- to kick every single American off of their private health insurance plan -- will only benefit the top 1%. While middle-class Americans will be forced onto Medicare and face long wait lines and poor care, the richest will just pay out of pocket for their medical expenses and get treatment quicker. Not to mention the total cost of Medicare for All. Experts have estimated it will cost $32 trillion over 10 years -- at minimum. Even if you tax the rich at the 'tippy top' at a 70% rate, that will only raise $720 billion over 10 years -- about 2% of what Medicare for All costs. And so, to pay for Medicare for All, we'd have to double everyone's taxes -- and that probably still won't pay for it when you factor in what this legislation would do to our economy. That math doesn't add up." (www.facebook.com)
  • Rated 0% by National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Signed a Letter to Nancy Pelosi: As you know, our nation recently surpassed $22 trillion in debt. With every hour that passes, we add $100 million to that figure. That is unconscionable. That must end. We know that if we simply hold to current spending levels--even assuming today's historically low interest rates--spending on interest alone will surpass defense spending within 5 years. Medicare is slated to run out of funds by 2026 and Social Security is slated to run out of funds by 2035. The good news is that current law is on our side to restrain spending. Congress should hold overall spending to the caps levels already in place while ensuring our men and women in uniform have the tools necessary to do their job. Doing so would be a modest step on a path towards balancing the budget. We respectfully request that you adhere to the existing spending caps currently in law in order to preserve our ability to defend our nation, protect our seniors, and pass down a strong Republic to the next generation of Americans." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "We must fix healthcare in America. As a physician and former healthcare CEO, I know firsthand that we need to increase access, we must cut red tape and keep the government from bogging down the system that provides lifesaving care to millions of Americans. We must put free market principles back into health care. That’s why I’ve introduced the Medicaid Improvement and State Flexibility Act, which allows states to implement a patient-centered and patient-controlled pilot program for Medicaid patients similar to what I passed as a state senator. Simply put, it’s a medical expense swipe card with a reduced amount of dollars available for medical purchases coupled with a catastrophic insurance plan. The recipient is told the card is for healthcare expenses and the card is only usable at allowed facilities—and any money they do not use comes back to them with their earned income credit, thus incentivizing them to shop for lower prices and save money. I have also introduced two bipartisan bills in Congress to repeal arcane rules that are killing our rural hospitals. Until we put free market principles back into healthcare, we cannot fix it. Consumer-centered health care shifts control of choice, decisions and payment to the patients and their providers, removing the power of the insurance companies and the government." (markgreentn.com)
  • "Democrats’ “For the People Act” is anything but. Creating a bill that seeks to consolidate power in Washington is dangerous and antithetical to our country’s values, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi." (www.facebook.com)
  • "H.R. 1 is a blatant attempt by @SpeakerPelosi and @HouseDemocrats to concentrate power in the hands of the Federal government and separate the American people from democracy. I will continue to fight the passage of this unconstitutional bill." (twitter.com)
  • Rated 0% by Common Cause (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Rated 0% by End Citizens United (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Defunding the police = more crime. Easy to understand." (www.facebook.com)
  • "I'm proud to cosponsor the JUSTICE Act, introduced by @RepPeteStauber as the House companion to @SenatorTimScott's proposal. Unlike Democrats' radical proposal seeking broad, national mandates, the JUSTICE Act upholds our high standard of policing—w/o destroying law and order." (twitter.com)
  • "Radical Senate Dems say the JUSTICE Act is insufficient for their goals. They're right—the GOP reform bill does not seek to federalize departments or undermine officers. Instead, it provides training and accountability to improve standards. That's what "reform" means." (www.facebook.com)
  • Voted against HR 1280 "George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "A defense budget that doesn’t account for record-high inflation levels is a cut. Period. That’s exactly what I told Secretary of Defense Austin and GEN Milley in yesterday’s House Armed Services Committee hearing. Shortchanging our defense is a threat to this country!" (www.facebook.com)
  • "Last night, the FY2022 #NDAA passed the House. This legislation puts our servicemembers first with a raise in pay, increases funds for servicemember housing, and adequately funds critical weapons systems. The NDAA also includes a version of my amendment to ban dishonorable discharges for servicemembers who refuse the COVID vaccine, and removes Red Flag laws previously included by the House. I was proud to vote YES." (www.facebook.com)
  • "Military readiness is the acquisition of the right people, with the right leader, right equipment, and right training. During the Trump Administration, the United States military tackled many of the past failures of the Obama Administration. We must continue to rebuild our military, and fight against the Radical Left’s efforts to defund the Pentagon with drastic funding cuts." (markgreentn.com)
  • Voted in favor of S 1605 "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? "No" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "At nearly $30 trillion, our national debt is perhaps the greatest threat to our children and grandchildren’s future. Cutting the federal debt has been one of my top priorities in Congress–and I have consistently opposed bills that continue to recklessly spend without concern for our children and grandchildren’s future debt. As long as I’m your congressman, I will continue to stand against Washington’s reckless spending. That’s why I sponsored the Balanced Budget Amendment, and call on Congress to pass it. The federal government must be subject to the same spending restraints as our states are. As a businessman myself, I understand that you either increase revenue, or you decrease spending if you want to fix a debt problem. We don’t have a revenue problem in America—we have a spending problem. The government needs to start living within its means, and cut unnecessary and wasteful programs." (markgreentn.com)
  • "In recent years, the federal government has clearly grown too big, weighing down the ingenuity and possibilities of Americans. That is an injustice. The cost of this overgrowth goes beyond the decreased productivity and loss of creativeness—it’s nearly bankrupted our country. We currently face many challenges as a nation: From cutting regulations to eliminating wasteful spending to providing oversight of taxpayer dollars, as your congressman, I have led the fight in Washington to rein in the government to let Americans try and flourish once again." (markgreentn.com)
  • Rated 97% by Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 266 "Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Small businesses would be put on their death beds with Speaker Pelosi's version of coronavirus relief. Instead of passing the Senate cure, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding small biz hostage in order to sneak in numerous liberal riders at a time when Americans are hurting. Shameful." (www.facebook.com)
  • "Funding for small businesses in the PPP program is running out, yet today House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer insisted on blocking additional relief for Americans unless they could tack on provisions that expedited their own agenda. Shameful." (www.facebook.com)
  • "While the CARES Act isn't perfect, it's a lot better than the liberal wish list @SpeakerPelosi tried to push through Congress earlier this week. Now, much needed relief to the American people is on the way." (twitter.com)
  • "Tennesseans are sick and tired of Democrats’ political games. Disguising their reckless Inflation Reduction Act as a way to help ease strain on Americans is baloney—and Tennesseans know it." (twitter.com)
  • “The fire is slowly dying…” and so is America’s patience with President Biden and the radical left. Americans are paying more for everything and they just want to keep on spending." (twitter.com)
  • Voted against HR 5376 "Inflation Reduction Act of 2022" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 2547 "Comprehensive Debt Collection Improvement Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "President Biden's student debt forgiveness is a slap in the face to every Tennessean who worked night and day to pay off their loans. Now they have to pay off someone else's too." (twitter.com)
  • "Tennesseans shouldn’t be strapped with the student loan debt of a software engineer in New York." (twitter.com)
  • "One of the reasons I remain adamantly opposed to H.R. 1 is that it nationalizes bad election laws, stripping states of the right to run their own elections. It expands mail-in voting, removes the requirement for a witness signature on absentee ballots, and prohibits voter ID laws. It also allows residents to vote in any precinct and forces states to adopt same-day voter registration. This direct attack on our states will destroy the precinct system and make our elections more chaotic and less secure." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 4 "John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021" (votesmart.org)
  • Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)? "No" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Rated 100% by National Association of Manufacturers (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "The power-hungry Democratic leadership tried to use this global crisis as a chance to pass liberal wishlist items like parts of the Green New Deal. That is unacceptable, and I will continue to stand firmly against their efforts!" (twitter.com)
  • Voted against HR 4447 "Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act of 2019" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Democrats have ignored sensible and realistic solutions to environmental issues in exchange for radical, performative agreements like the Paris Climate Accords. This agreement will cost Americans 2.7+ million jobs and do little to actually reduce global temperatures." (www.facebook.com)
  • Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? "Yes" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 2467 "PFAS Action Act of 2021" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 9 "Climate Action Now Act" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Do you generally support gun-control legislation? "No" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Rated 92% by National Rifle Association (NRA) (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "The Constitution protects the right to bear arms, but neither the document nor the government gives us that right. The right to protect ourselves–and our families—comes from our Creator, which is why government cannot take it away. I am proud to fight against all efforts to chip away at our 2nd Amendment in Congress, including an effort by Democrats to stack the Supreme Court. That’s why I introduced a Constitutional amendment to limit the number of justices at nine. When I served in the State Senate, I led the fight to expand gun rights to law-abiding citizens and championed the constitutional carry bill in the state. I defended each of the freedoms in the Constitution when I went to Iraq and Afghanistan, and you can continue to count on me to keep fighting for the Second Amendment." (markgreentn.com)
  • Voted against HR 1446 "Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against S 2938 "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "Socialized medicine will have profoundly negative effects on our country. The Medicare for All plans proposed by Democrats in the House and Senate are authoritarian measures that will control the lives of Americans in the most intimate way possible. Under Medicare for All, the federal government will possess the medical records of every American and have the power to dictate when and what type of care you receive. This will ultimately lead to rationed care and unaccountable bureaucrats making the most difficult, ethical decisions about your life." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Surprise medical billing needs Medicare for All like a fish needs a bicycle. With government subsidizing the health care industry, surprise costs would get WAY worse in the form of taxes. There's a better way to fix this: transparency." (twitter.com)
  • Voted against HR 1425 "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 6201 "Families First Coronavirus Response Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 6833 "The Affordable Insulin Now Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "If two toddlers tossed over a wall and abandoned by human traffickers doesn’t convince President Biden to increase border security and end disastrous open border policies, I don’t know what will." (twitter.com)
  • "President Biden‘s infrastructure plan is a trojan horse for radical Green New Deal policies. Meanwhile, I’m seeing little actual infrastructure spending— including nothing for border security." (twitter.com)
  • "Some argue that border security is not necessary because too few known or suspected terrorists have been captured on the southern border. They say that only eight have been captured. I would suggest to my colleagues on the other side of the aisle that one terrorist gaining entry into this country is too many. I would like to point out that there were only 19 terrorists who carried out the attacks on 9/11--just 19. The fact that we know ISIS is encouraging their followers to try to enter the United States across our porous southern border should itself warrant better scrutiny." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? "Yes" (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "President Biden is prioritizing help for illegal immigrants over the urgent needs of Americans with his immigration plan sent to Congress. Our priority should be getting Americans back to work and recovering from this pandemic, not weakening border security and granting mass amnesty." (www.facebook.com)
  • Rated 86% by NumbersUSA (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "We must also reinstate the Trump Administration’s asylum agreements–and firmly reject the proposals by the current administration that put thousands of families at risk to make a dangerous trek to our southern border. It is also imperative that we enforce current federal law both at the border and across the country. When I served in the State Senate, I passed an anti-sanctuary cities bill that adds teeth to Tennessee’s sanctuary cities law. I also passed a bill forbidding municipalities from creating their own forms of identification. In Congress, I have also co-led a bill to designate certain Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. It’s past time we hold them accountable for the violence and destruction they have caused." (markgreentn.com)
  • "The United States should not be directly or indirectly funding Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine by purchasing their oil and gas. It is critical we stand strong and ban Russian oil. At the same time, it would be outrageous to even consider buying oil from Iran or Venezuela. It's preposterous that the Biden Administration is even considering reviving the Iran Nuclear Deal. It's past time for us to take advantages of America's abundant natural resources and become energy independent--and it's time to cut off tyranny and totalitarianism at the knees around the globe." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Vladimir Putin's end goal has been on display for some time now. Instead of swift, crippling sanctions, the Biden Administration chose the wait-and-watch approach. In the midst of destabilizing Russian aggression, the time for action was months ago. We all witnessed Putin's false flag propaganda play out--just like U.S. intelligence officials predicted. This invasion has been anticipated for weeks." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 6968 "Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor S 3522 "Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 5377 "Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "We must continue to cut taxes at all levels of government to let businesses across the country innovate, invest, and hire more people. I’m proud to co-sponsor multiple bills in Congress to cut more taxes and let Americans keep more of their hard-earned dollars. I am a firm believer in the Laffer Curve: Revenue increases with decreased taxes. In Tennessee, as a state senator, I’ve led the fight to lower taxes and successfully passed the repeal of the Hall Income Tax, making our state one of only two states to have ever repealed an income tax of any kind." (markgreentn.com)
  • "Millions of American jobs depend on free & fair trade. Yet the EU & UK continue to impose a prohibitive 25% tariff on US whiskey, including some of America’s best made right here in TN." (www.facebook.com)
  • "Proud that President Donald J. Trump has brought House Democrats to the table and delivered a major bipartisan victory on #USMCA for America's workers and businesses. USMCA is vital for Tennessee; Canada and Mexico are big purchasers of Tennessee goods!" (www.facebook.com)
  • Voted in favor of HR 5430 "United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act" (justfacts.votesmart.org)

I am running because Congress is in need of real leadership. As a physician, combat veteran, business leader, and now State Senator, I believe I can bring people together and find solutions for our country. The top three priorities I am hoping to address are: (1) the nation?s debt crisis, (2) the overbearing weight of regulations on the economy, and (3) the need to restore American leadership globally.
