Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I will always stand for women's health issues, including access to contraception and the right to make one's own reproductive choices. Since my first day in office, I have been fighting any legislation or executive action that allows insurance companies to discriminate against women. I believe that only a woman, her family, and her doctor should be able to decide what is best for her health. |
Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I do not support raising income taxes on middle and lower income individuals and families, and I have voted to repeal the State And Local Tax (SALT) deduction CAP, which has been especially harmful for California's families. I believe that we must strengthen and preserve Medicare and Social Security, essential programs that reflect our shared commitment to support seniors, and oppose any and all Republican efforts to privatize Social Security or raise the retirement age. I cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act and the Social Security 2100 Act, to protect and strengthen benefits for our seniors and future retirees. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations,unions, and individuals?
We are living in unprecedented times that require accountability, transparency, and a free press. I believe that it's important to hold Washington accountable, now more than ever, and that campaign finance reform is a vital component of this accountability and transparency. This is why I have not accepted corporate PAC money since I began campaigning in March of 2017. I also co-sponsored H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2019, to expand voting rights, secure our election system against foreign interference, and remove the corrupting influence of "dark money" from American politics. |
No | Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
I support reforms to qualified immunity that both increase accountability and allow law enforcement to do their jobs effectively. |
Yes | Do you support increasing defense spending?
As the representative for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, I support investments in our military to provide the tools and resources our servicemembers need to fulfill their missions. As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, I have authored and passed 18 bipartisan bills to help our servicemembers, veterans, and their families. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes | Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Yes | Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation?
I was proud to vote for the Inflation Reduction Act to dramatically reduce prescription drug prices, expand access to affordable health care, and end our reliance on expensive foreign oil -- while cutting the federal deficit by over $300 billion. We passed the CHIPS and Science Act to help end the chip shortage that has driven up costs and the bipartisan Infrastructure Law to strengthen our supply chains and get goods to market faster and cheaper. I'll keep fighting to deliver real relief for Americans struggling with high costs. |
Unknown Position | Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?
|
|||
The student debt crisis is placing a massive burden on low-income and middle-class families, and I strongly support action to lower the cost of higher education, expand Pell Grants, and provide debt relief for those who need it most. We also have a responsibility to pay for these investments without increasing the national debt, which is why I would have preferred for recent student loan relief to go through Congress. My focus now is on working to make college more affordable so future generations do not face the same burden that many families are facing today. |
No | Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls? |
Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
In our district, we are experiencing more extreme heat waves, longer droughts, more intense wildfires, rising sea levels, and unprecedented coastal erosion. I disagree with the idea that you cannot protect the environment and grow the economy at the same time. We are doing it in California, and I believe that we can lead in Washington, as well, if we embrace science when it comes to our environment, our economy, and the creation of the clean energy jobs of the future. I currently serve on the Natural Resources Committee and the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. |
Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Since I was elected, I have been working to reduce the epidemic of gun violence in this country as a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Over the past year the House has passed several gun violence prevention bills that would save lives and stop preventable violence and deaths caused by firearms before they occur. H.R. 8, the bipartisan Background Checks Act, which I cosponsored last year, is an example of a commonsense gun violence prevention bill that is supported by over 90% of Americans, Republican and Democrat, which passed the House. |
Yes | Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities?
Yes | Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs?
Unknown Position | Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?
|
|||
I believe that every American should have access to affordable, quality healthcare. Nobody should have to choose to pay for rent or groceries, instead of seeing a doctor or paying for a prescription. I believe that we must work to repair and strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Many ideas to improve the ACA must be explored, including a public option, early buy-in to Medicare coverage within the health insurance marketplaces, and the hiring of new full-time federal enrollment assisters to help Americans enroll. I supported legislation to lock in lower healthcare premiums and lower drug prices for many Americans. |
Yes | Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?
No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I am the grandson of Mexican immigrants on my mother's side. Having not graduated high school themselves, my grandparents sent all five of their daughters to college. At age 50, my grandfather, Rosendo Bringas, became an American citizen. It was among the proudest days of his life. I want to preserve the values and aspirations of so many immigrants like my grandparents, who dream of the uniquely American opportunity for self-improvement. I proudly cosponsored H.R.6 to protect our Dreamers. We can achieve a policy that emphasizes both humanity and security, and I voted to fund modern technology along our border. |
Yes | Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?
Yes | Do you support the U.S. providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?
The United States and our global allies cannot allow Vladimir Putin to get away with an unjustified invasion of a sovereign country, which is why it is critical that we continue to support Ukraine with military/humanitarian aid and support international efforts to prosecute war crimes. I am encouraged by the global coalition of countries, businesses, and leaders that have come together to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine and hold Vladmir Putin accountable with swift/severe sanctions. While I support sending additional weapons, other resources to the Ukrainian military, I do not support sending American service members into combat there. |
Unknown Position | Do you support raising taxes, on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth?
|
|||
I have fought to lower taxes for middle and lower income individuals and families. I led action to repeal the State And Local Tax (SALT) deduction CAP, which has been especially harmful for California's families, and I was proud to vote for the Inflation Reduction Act to build a fairer tax code and a stronger economy. That landmark legislation ensures that massive corporations making over $1 billion in profit start paying their fair share in taxes without raising taxes on families making less than $400,000. |
Yes | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I am generally supportive of removing barriers to international trade as long as our free trading partners meet high labor and environmental standards. Fair and free trade should benefit small businesses and working families. I was proud to support the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) and look forward to working with my colleagues to establish new Free Trade Agreements (FTA)s. |
