08/20/2015 Congressman Russell to Join Congressional Delegation to TaiwanLeaving on Saturday, August 22nd, Congressman Steve Russell (OK-5) will be participating as an official visitor for a tour of the Republic of China, also known as Taiwan. Russell was invited to participate in an important Trilateral Security Dialog with representatives also from Japan and Taiwan. Additionally, the trip will focus on regional security, international trade and foreign relations issues facing Taiwan and the Pacific Rim. Congressman Russell spoke about the upcoming trip saying, "The Pacific region is vital to our national interests. Given the recent Pacific trade focus, it is essential to strengthen our alliances and friendships, while working toward a broader interchange between Pacific countries toward economic growth and international security. Additionally, I am very excited that I will be able to promote American interests and the interests of Oklahoma, to offer solutions to many of the resources needed by our Pacific partners." The trip is sponsored and paid for by the government of Taiwan under the Mutual Education and Cultural Exchange Act (MECEA) program, in full compliance with Congressional ethics and disclosure rules.
