6 Months After Tax Reform, the Economy is Booming

Press Release

Date: June 20, 2018

This week marks the 6 month anniversary of when President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act into law. In today's House Republican Leadership press conference, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) shared how Americans lives are improving under America's new tax code built for growth.

On Tax Reform:

"We have an important date coming up on Friday, the 6 month anniversary of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. In just 6 months, 1 million jobs have been created. Wages are growing at their fastest rate since 2008. Consumer confidence is up. Our small business owners are more optimistic, and we have record low unemployment at 3.8 percent. That's the lowest we've seen in a long time."

On Combating the Opioid Epidemic:

"The People's House is continuing our work to combat the opioid crisis, prevent addiction, and stop the flow of fentanyl that's coming from China and Mexico. These drugs are extremely dangerous and potent, and it underscores why it's so important we must stop these drugs at their source before they cross the border."

On Immigration:

"That's another reason why border security and national security is a priority as we fix our broken immigration system. Now, let me make it very clear. I do not believe the government should separate families and children at the border.

"As you all know, the President was here yesterday, and I'm encouraged by what our members have put forward to stop this practice of separating families, to secure the border, keep America safe, and find a DACA solution."

"The immigration issue is not going away. The president wants a solution. Our members want a solution. The American people want a solution. So we need a solution. My priority right now is to continue working with all of our Members to get one."
