Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement regarding Thomas Farr, President Trump's nominee to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

"President Trump and Senate Republicans may hope most Americans ignore Thomas Farr's consistent, disturbing pattern of racial targeting and hostility to voting rights, but it is clear that Farr, over the course of his long career, has worked diligently to undermine our nation's values and hinder African-Americans from exercising their right to vote. So I join my Senate Democratic colleagues in vigorously opposing his nomination.

"The ability to vote and make your voice heard is a bedrock of our democracy, and as the systemic challenges embedded in our voting system become more clear for many Americans--especially people of color and others whose political power has been severely limited through aggressive gerrymandering and voter suppression--the last thing Congress should do is confirm someone to our federal courts who for decades has demonstrated a clear hostility to upholding our American ideals."
