Rep. Waters Announces $1.2M in Coronavirus Relief Funding for Behavioral Health Services

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, released a statement today announcing that Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Inc., which provides primary healthcare services to low-income and underserved patients at locations throughout Los Angeles County, including the Cities of Gardena and Hawthorne in the Congresswoman's congressional district, received three federal grants totaling $1,264,245 to support its primary care and coronavirus response work. Her statement follows:

"I am proud to announce that Behavioral Health Services has received federal grants totaling more than $1.2 million to support its vital work providing primary healthcare services in the Cities of Gardena and Hawthorne in my congressional district, as well as locations throughout Los Angeles County. These funds will help BHS provide COVID-19 screening and treatment and other essential health services to low-income and underserved individuals and families in our region. BHS will also be able to use these funds to provide face masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect its frontline health workers and their patients.

"I am especially proud that these BHS grants were largely funded by legislation my colleagues and I passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic. BHS received a grant for $567,395 that was funded by the landmark CARES Act, which passed Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support. This $2 trillion economic security package -- the largest in our nation's history -- was designed to help healthcare providers, working families, and vulnerable communities impacted by the pandemic. BHS also received a grant for $643,778 to support its primary care services and an additional grant for $53,072 that was funded by a coronavirus supplemental appropriations bill. I worked very hard to pass these coronavirus relief bills, and I am pleased that they supported the important work of BHS in our community.
