Sasse Statement on JUSTICE Act

U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Republican working group with U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) that wrote the JUSTICE Act, released the following statement after Senate Democrats filibustered even beginning debate on the legislation.

"D.C. politicians sadly usually care more about scoring partisan points than actually fixing things. The JUSTICE Act isn't perfect, but it's a darn good effort to take legislative priorities -- from both parties -- and do something to fix policing issues America's had for a long time. Moderate Democrats signaled support, but that wasn't good enough for the far Left, who won't even let us start debate. Senator Tim Scott has thoughtfully led on this issue, crafting legislation that is worthy of a full debate before the Senate -- we should do that work."

Background:

Last week, Sasse spoke on the Senate floor in support of the JUSTICE Act and participated in the working group's press conference.

The JUSTICE Act provides long-term solutions focused on three main areas: Police reform, accountability, and transparency, while including additional steps aimed at finding solutions to disparities and systemic issues facing people of color.
