Davids Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Promote Innovation, Growth in Aviation

Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Vice Chair Sharice Davids has introduced the "Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act'' with Ranking Member Garret Graves (R-LA) to promote innovation and growth in American aviation.

The bipartisan bill would develop an advanced air mobility (AAM) interagency working group, comprised of federal agency and civil aviation industry leaders, which would review policies and programs to help advance the emerging industry of AAM. Advanced Air Mobility refers to "an air transportation system that moves people and cargo between places previously not served or underserved by aviation -- local, regional, intraregional, urban -- using revolutionary new aircraft that are only just now becoming possible."

"Kansas was once the center of aviation manufacturing in the country, and we are still home to a skilled aviation workforce. As a member of the Aviation Subcommittee, I've worked to support and reenergize our aviation industry with new aerospace investment and by promoting new technologies, such as Advanced Air Mobility. I'm proud to introduce the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act with Ranking Member Graves, which would set the foundation for how the federal government can help work with and promote the advanced air mobility space," said Davids.

"This AAM conversation builds on top of the transportation and infrastructure all-of-the-above strategy we are pushing for. This means not just in aviation systems, but everything from space exploration to traditional surface transportation methods such as roads, highways and transit. Whether it's a FAST Act grant to raise a local road or landing a rover on Mars, all strides we make matter in the bigger picture of moving the United States further along," Graves said. "And while the new AAM sector is attractive and promising, the new challenge is making sure we invest now in the educational foundation so there are qualified individuals ready to fill the positions when the time is right. I look forward to continuing to build support for this bill with Rep. Sharice Davids, the aviation industry, stakeholders, the Department of Transportation and my colleagues on this new endeavor."

The bill was also introduced in the Senate by Kansas Senator Jerry Moran.
