U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over the Smithsonian Institution, released the statement below after the Smithsonian Board of Regents announced its recommendation for the National Museum of the American Latino and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum to be built on the National Mall.

"I applaud the Smithsonian Board of Regents for taking the important step to recommend that both the National Museum of the American Latino and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum be built on the National Mall. These locations will create a powerful experience for families visiting our capital to learn about the remarkable contributions made by women and Latino Americans to the fabric of our nation."

In March, Klobuchar held an oversight hearing on the Smithsonian Institution at which Secretary of the Smithsonian Lonnie Bunch provided testimony on the site selection process for the new museums. She cosponsored the bipartisan bills that established the two museums and as then-Ranking Member of the Senate Rules Committee, oversaw the legislation in Committee -- where it was voted out unanimously -- and worked to pass the legislation through the Senate and get it signed into law.
