BIDEN Issues Statement on Terrorist Attack Against the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul

Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) issued this statement following the terrorist attack against the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey earlier today:

"The United States owes a profound debt of gratitude to the three Turkish police officers who lost their lives protecting the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul. This attack was a reminder that the work of diplomacy is deadly serious business. It is made possible by brave men and women who represent our country around the world, but also by those who protect them from violent extremists. I extend my deep sympathies to the families of those killed in this attack, and hope they will take some solace in the fact that these brave officers helped prevent what could have been a far greater loss of life."
