Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park will be among the first sites commemorated in a new coin series issued by the U.S. Mint.

U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) introduced the Senate bill that honors America's National Park Service sites.

“Millions of people have experienced the pristine wilderness and rugged beauty of Yellowstone National Park,” Barrasso said. “The people of Wyoming are rightly proud of our state's unique heritage and natural beauty.”

“The Yellowstone coin will help encourage people to visit Wyoming and experience the history and true wilderness of one of America's greatest treasures,” Barrasso said.

The “America the Beautiful Quarters Program” is modeled after the 50 state quarter program and will begin minting coins in 2010.
