Biden Statement on Iraq Elections

"The election was an important step forward and a tribute to the courage of the Iraqi people and our soldiers and citizens in Iraq. But it was only a first step on a very long road filled with lethal potholes. We still need to give the Iraqis the capacity to govern themselves. Iraq is no more capable today than it was yesterday of providing law and order, defeating the insurgents and delivering basic services. We also have to work harder to reach those left out of the election process. Many Sunnis stayed away or were scared away. We need to give them a stake in Iraq's future too. Finally, the President needs to level with the American people about the hard work ahead and demonstrate that we have not an exit strategy, but a strategy for success."
