Bost Meets with Local Veterans to Discuss Pressing Issues

Metro East veterans turned out for a round-table panel discussion with State Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) and Congressmen Doug Collins (R-GA) to voice their displeasure with the current state of affairs with the VA and the Obama Administration's defense policy.

"Politicians often go to Washington and forget about real people, but I've never seen anyone as proud of being out-of touch with his constituents as Congressman Enyart," Congressman Collins said. "Even more troubling than his support for President Obama's weak foreign policy is his total disregard for the First Amendment rights of the men and women of our military."

Enyart took an unorthodox, ill-advised vote during the 2013 government shut down, in which he reiterated about being the lone Congressmen to vote against a "stop-gap" measure which would have allowed military ministers to keep working. The former Illinois National Guard head, also stated that he knew more about military chaplains, than anyone else in Congress.

That point was rebuffed by Congressman Collins, an Air Force reservist who in 2008 deployed to Iraq as a chaplain.

"We are making defense and veteran's issues a centerpiece of our campaign. As the region's largest employer Scott Air Force Base is good for job creation and retention. A strong Scott AFB, makes for a strong 12th Congressional District," Bost said. "I want to thank Congressmen Collins for traveling to Illinois to take part with our strong veteran's focus."

Bost reaffirmed his commitment to fighting against the weak foreign policies of the Obama Administration, rebuilding America's military superiority and securing our borders. Earlier in the week, Bost and Collins held a telephone town hall with approximately 10,000 southwestern Illinois voters.

Additionally, the Bost campaign will be making key veterans announcements in the coming weeks.
